Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) will lock horns with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Match 60 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal on Saturday.

Points Table

Sunrisers have lost 7 of their 11 encounters and are officially out of the race for the playoffs. KKR, on the other hand, have six wins from 12 encounters and need to win both their remaining matches to have any chance of making the last 4. They suffered a narrow two-wicket defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday which has made the equation a tad more difficult for the defending champions.

SRH and KKR, both, have been poor with the bat with a combined average of 26.1 and 25.5 placing them in the bottom three this season. Ironically, it was their devastating batting display which saw them break numerous records last season and powering them to the final. SRH have also suffered in the bowling department and with an economy of 10 are the second-most expensive unit in the competition.

This will be the second meeting for both teams this season. KKR walloped SRH by 80 runs at Eden Gardens. Batting first, the defending champions hammered 200 with their middle-order firing on all cylinders. The bowlers, led by Vaibhav Arora (3-29) then routed SRH for a paltry 120. KKR have dominated the head to head and hold a 19-9 record against Sunrisers!

We look at the rivalry between the two franchises, the players to watch out for and the match-ups, the numbers which stand out in the different phases of play and who is likely to come out triumphant in this must win match for KKR.

Players To Watch Out For

Abhishek Sharma (SRH)
Abhishek Sharma hasn’t had the best of seasons with the bat but is still the leading run-scorer for Sunrisers with an aggregate of 314 runs at a scoring rate of 180.45. His highest impact performance came against Punjab Kings in Hyderabad when he blasted a stunning 141 off just 55 deliveries. Abhishek boasts of a strike rate of 185.6 in the powerplay since IPL 2024. Abhishek might unleash his destructive prowess against KKR now that SRH are out of the playoff race and without any pressure.

Jaydev Unadkat (SRH)
Jaydev Unadkat has picked 7 wickets in 5 matches for SRH this season and been their most restrictive bowler, conceding just 6.9 runs per over! The veteran left-arm fast bowler has been very economical in the powerplay going for just 7.28 per over. Just for perspective, Pat Cummins has an economy of 8.9 in the first 6 overs, Harshal Patel – 9.57 and Mohammed Shami – 10.3!

Andre Russell (KKR)
Andre Russell finally showcased his might with the bat with a match-changing 57 off just 25 deliveries against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens. He followed that with a cameo 38 off just 21 balls, albeit in a losing cause, against Chennai Super Kings. Russell is one of the greatest all-rounders in IPL history with a strike rate of 195.9 in the death overs in the tournament. He has a balls/boundary ratio of 3.2 between overs 16-20 in the IPL. Russell is also a highly under-rated bowler in the T20 format and is a big wicket-taker in the IPL. In fact, his bowling strike rate of 14.6 is the best ever in the league’s history (min. 50 wickets)!

Varun Chakravarthy (KKR)
Varun Chakravarthy is the leading wicket-taker for KKR for a third year running with 17 dismissals in 12 matches at a strike rate of 16.5. He is also the second-most economical spinner of the tournament and has conceded just 7 per over.
Despite being a leg spinner, Varun has operated within the fielding restrictions in the powerplay and given away just 76 runs off 66 deliveries at an economy of under 7! He has bowled 115 dot balls this season – the second-most for the competition after Khaleel Ahmed.
