Punjab Kings (PBKS) will clash with Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) in Ahmedabad on Sunday in what promises to be a high-octane encounter between PBKS’s batting might and MI’s bowling pedigree.

Match Prediction - Punjab Kings v Mumbai Indians

While PBKS suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bengaluru and were routed for 101 in Mullanpur, MI overcame Gujarat Titans by 20 runs in the Eliminator at the same venue.

PBKS and MI have faced each other once in the edition with the former gunning down the 184-run total with 7 wickets in hand and 9 balls to spare.

Punjab Kings have been one of the most aggressive batting unit this season with a combined strike rate of 157.7 – the second-highest in the competition. The biggest story for them has been the start they have got at the top of the order from Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh.

MI have staged a sensational comeback after an indifferent start to the season. They have the best average and strike rate from their sixth match in the competition. The batting has revolved around Suryakumar Yadav, who with an aggregate of 673 runs, is the second-highest scorer of the tournament. Jasprit Bumrah’s return, after sitting out the first few matches and his new-ball pairing with Trent Boult has been the other success story for MI this season. MI have the best bowling average (23.7), bowling strike rate (16.1) and economy rate (8.8) for fast bowlers this season.

We look at the rivalry between PBKS and MI, the players to watch out for and the match-ups, the numbers which stand out in the different phases of play and who is likely to come out triumphant in the high-octane encounter.

Suryakumar Yadav (MI)
SKY has been the most consistent batter of the tournament and has not failed even once in the 15 innings he has batted this season. He has scored tough runs for MI when they haven’t got a great start at the top of the order and also provided the impetus when he has been given the platform. SKY has a strike rate of 174.5 against pace and the sweep and the slog sweep have been his most productive shots this season.

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)
Jasprit Bumrah has played a significant part in MI’s transformation this season and bagged 18 wickets from 11 outings at a strike rate of 14.44. He has also been brilliantly restrictive with an economy rate of just 6.36 – the best in the tournament amongst all bowlers who have taken a minimum of 5 wickets.
